Jonathan interviewed Matt ‘Ollie’ Ollerton — ex-Special Forces frogman and star of Channel Four’s SAS: Who Dares Wins — at a leading literary festival in July 2019.
The perils of armed combat, alcohol and prescription drug addiction and dealing with life back on ‘civvy street’ were just some of the issues covered in this probing interview, held in front of a live audience in Dartington’s Great Hall – the largest venue in Dartington’s 2019 Ways with Words literature festival.
After challenging Ollie to an arm wrestle, Jonathan got down to the serious business of exploding the myths of secret service missions, armed combat in Northern Ireland and tackling insurgents in Iraq’s Operation Desert Storm.
The interview closed with a discussion on support services for veterans, prompted by questions from the audience. Find out more in Ollie’s book, Break Point.
The interview was one of three festival sessions run by Jonathan. He also hosted a talk by Isabella Tree, author of the best-selling book Wilding and a presentation by Transition Towns pioneer Rob Hopkins, whose book on unleashing the power of the imagination is published by Chelsea Green Publishing in October 2019.
